WRITERS ON ATTACHMENT
Six full length new plays were completed by the playwrights on the Writers Attachment Programme who met one Saturday a month between October 2016 and June 2017 at Oxford Playhouse.
As a group they attended 8 all day workshops with individual mentoring led by John Retallack. Extracts from the completed plays were presented to a invited audience at the Playhouse in June 2017.
One of the plays from last year’s programme – The Ocean Queen, by Mandy Constance – was presented at The Offbeat Festival, in Oxford in June 2017.
120 writers applied for the 2017/18 programme – six will be chosen by the beginning of September.
Six twenty minute plays were written and completed by the Young Playmakers who met every week at the Oxford Playhouse with Renata.
The plays were performed at the Burton Taylor Studio in July 2017 by the Oxford Playhouse Young Companies.
170 short plays written by primary school pupils were completed and performed in schools. 12 were chosen to be performed on the Oxford Playhouse stage in March 2017 at a special performance for all the schools to attend who had taken part in the Primary Playmaker project.
In addition to the Playhouse Playmaker work, we have mentored individual writers and produced their work at public readings and performances.
ANTIGONA AND ME by Zena Forster was presented at the The National Theatre in June 2017 to an invited audience, directed by John.
THE FOURTH DOG by Zena Walker toured professionally in Oxford and Oxfordshire in July 2017- produced by Human Story, directed by Tristan Pate with dramaturgy by John.
DANGLING by Abi Hood has been through a process of redrafting with Renata and will be playing at Southwark Playhouse in London for 3 weeks in August 2017.
John directed the highly successful Bristol Old Vic touring production of PINK MIST by Owen Sheers which played UK theatres from January to April 2017.
John and Renata co-directed a promenade production of AS YOU LIKE IT in May 2017 for Corpus Christi College in Oxford with a cast drawn from staff and students to celebrate the quin-centenary of the college.
Renata wrote and directed a new show for The Story Museum
