At Oxford Playmaker we offer a range of courses for writers at different stages in their career:

For professional and aspiring writers John runs a weekly course every Monday from September to June.

This professional course covers every aspect of writing a play over 30 weekly sessions and 3 day-long workshops. There are also individual tutorials at the end of each term. Sessions take place every Monday and there is a maximum of 8 writers per group.

Admission is by interview, plus an extended sample of the applicant’s written work. No academic qualification is required and the course is open to anyone over 18.

By the end of the course, you will have written three plays and heard them read aloud and partly staged. You will receive up-to-date professional advice as to where to send your best work, and know the audience for whom you wish to write.


Course A and Course B follow an identical programme, but take place in different time-slots in a venue on Oxford High Street:

COURSE A Mondays at 2 – 4pm September 11th, 2017 – June 4th, 2018 COURSE B Mondays at 6.30 – 8.30pm September 11th, 2017 – June 4th, 2018

Both courses have an additional three full-day sessions plus individual tuition time at the end of each term.


The course lasts 80 hours in total.
